Kiefer technic showroom wall detail11/14/2022 Moreover, the interrelated subjects impact façade form individually and aggregately regard to functional scenario that is changed the perception of kinetic façade from elegant and fashionable state to a functional and practical element. Façade as an only interface between inside and outside of building, far from the literal and historical perceptions, is recognized by intrinsic functional attributes including complexity, heterogeneity and multidisciplinary. This study aims to propose a kinetic façade design process which have capability to improve occupant visual & thermal comfort simultaneously by controlling on-site renewable energy resources consist of solar radiation and wind. Therefore, generative-parametric and quick form finding method for responding to different climates would be a solution for providing more adaptability to dynamic daylight. Also, adaptive daylight façade with daily solar geometry variation has been highly required. However, interdisciplinary studies for proposing kinetic façade form is relatively rare. The façade of the Kiefer Technic building. It is a pertinent example of modern interactive architecture with an outer framework of 112 tiles that shift and fold into rows on command. Many research has been carried out about kinetic façade concepts strategies, principles, and criteria. The Kiefer Technic Showroom is a hybrid exhibition space and office building in Bad Gleichenberg, Austria that moves according to the general weather conditions. The literature review process answers following research questions: (1) what are the interdisciplinary subjects corresponding to kinetic façade design process for creating an innovative architectural process? (2) What is the most important factor in kinetic façade design with the aim to improve occupants’ visual and thermal comfort simultaneously based on multidisciplinary investigation? Six interrelated subjects are studied including kinetic façade, biomimicry, building form as a microclimate modifier, energy efficiency, comfort condition, parametric design thinking. This literature review article studies the façade, as a complex interface between inside of buildings and the outside that has a capability to function as a protective or regulatory element against severe fluctuations of external climate. In particular, optimizing visual and thermal comfort simultaneously is a difficult topic due to mutual conflicts between them. The building was awarded the popular International Architecture Award of Chicago Athenaeum (Museum of Architecture and Design).Visual and thermal comfort for occupants significantly depend on exterior environmental climatic conditions, which are continuously changing. The continuous and silent operation of the 112 metal structures does not only provide sun protection but makes the façade literally ‘dance’. The building that was opened in 2007 impresses through the glass façade’s shading system, weighing 10 tonnes, designed by architect Ernst Giselbrecht and constructed and produced by Kiefer technic. Still, there is also a lot to see in front of the façade. One of the reasons for Kiefer technic’s success is also the production process that is controlled by an in-house developed production software and enables made-to-measure production on industrial scale.Īnyone who would like to get an insight of the company, has to look behind the façade into the showroom that makes visitors see the world of hospitals and clean rooms with different eyes. 80 employees have chiefly acquired their professional skills and experiences in the fields of technology, production and assembling in the very company. Behind these high demands there is the team around CEO and owner Astrid Kiefer. Kiefer technic’s products mostly impress by security, durability, ease of use and reliant functions. Kiefer technic plans and produces functional furniture, cooling and heating chambers, door systems and wall and roof systems for hospitals and clean rooms.
